Ads coming to cell phones

Your cell phone is perfect for them.

 

“Them” being advertisers, and your cell phone may be something of their holy grail, because it's a device you have on you all the time, you use several times a day, plus advertisers have the potential to use it to know exactly where you are.

That potential is now being tested by CBS Mobile, which is joining up with a company called Loopt, creators of so-called location-based technologies.

They're starting to try out ads that would use the global position system built into your phone as a way to target you with ads that are relevant to wherever you happen to be standing at the very moment you're seeing the ad. The ad doesn't get sent to your phone as a text message of any sort, instead, it'd replace those banner ads you see while surfing CBS' mobile websites, CBS News or CBS Sports, for example.
